Sulzer Mixers in the Hydroprocessing of Renewable Fuels:
Sulzer remains the worldwide leader in the use of in-line mixing technology in the production of biofuels from renewable feedstocks. Our extensive experience and solid expertise in the fundamentals of gas/liquid contacting enables Sulzer to accurately predict our mixer performance in thermal and phase equilibrium applications, include reactor feed homogenization. Due to the extreme thermal gradients between the fluids, this application also requires specialized expertise to integrate thermal sleeves into the mixer and injector design.
Hydroprocessing has been known to cause partial polymerization of the liquid feed, and therefore it is highly beneficial to use mixing elements that combine an open design with high efficiency. The Sulzer static mixers have been proven to fulfill these requirements, by helping to drive the vapor and liquid streams into uniform dispersions, enabling efficient interfacial contacting to occur within minimum pipe lengths while minimizing the potential for fouling.
Hydro-desulfurization Scrubbing Applications:
Sulzer is also widely recognized as the worldwide leader in static mixing technology, especially when used for co-current scrubbers in water wash service for Hydro-Desulfurization units. Their primary function is to help in the removal of ammonium salts from the reactor effluent streams, to minimize the formation of salt deposits which can lead to corrosion in the downstream piping, air-cooled heat exchangers, or separator vessels.
